Aerevolution has been working with the The Tri Guys for several years, successfully helping many of their athletes to a faster bike leg that doesn't compromise the run. Oskar and Anthony originally came for bike fits on the recommendation of another client. Happy with their results on their Canyon Speedmax CF they started recommending their clients to do the same. In 2025 both decided to take further steps to improve on the bike with an approach based on minimising aero drag using TT bikes rather than Tri bikes.
The Speedmax CF is quite a tall bike and it can be useful to work around the base setup to improve position where appropriate. This was easier on the older models but the current version has a fully integrated front end that blocks this. Making the frame much more limiting than it used to be.
Maximising aero within the limits of the event is important. Working with the body rather than against it allows comfortable adoption of the aero position. Ironman has some very specific points to be careful with so that the run is not compromised in any way.
This setup was completed with a testing session to follow where stack and reach would be refined based on clean data. Wattshop Anemoi providing a very solid and aero base for the front end and the frame being very minimalist with on bike nutrition to be held between several bottle attachments which would also be tested for their impact on drag.
Changes to position do not always heve to be dramatic to have a significant benefit. Understanding what is good and can be left alone makes the process a lot faster and avoids unnecessary readjustment at a later date
Relatively subtle adjustments in appearance but really big aero gains were made in this fit. Improving comfort alongside drag.
Again this setup was reached with validation to follow with a testing session. Adopting frames with a very minimalist profile doesn't have to impact the ability to carry enough nutrition for Ironman using current bottle solutions.
Getting clean data from aero testing can give valuable information relating to simple changes to equipment and position. Typically larger gains are found in the first few sessions and these are key to moving from a solid starting position to a more refined and personal setup. Riding the bike at speeds appropriate to the event and with position held as it would be for four hours are important.
Consistency of position is always important during testing and even more so on a closed circuit like Hillingdon. It is preferable to use a velodrome or other flat circuit so that this is more straightforward. Both Oskar and Anthony were very stable in the aero position having trained it a lot. Repeatability of results was excellent and allowed good decisions to be made without having to do many repeats.
The thorough preparation leading up to the race enabled a dominant performance on the bike. Oskar winning the European AG Championship is no small feat and a great reward for the effort put in. Anthony's ride promises more to come with a leading time despite having a pretty bad day physically. Further work in the future will lead to further gains though the expectation is that these gradually become harder to find, there are still some clean low hanging fruit to benefit from though in both cases.
